Loose band or bracket
Keep band or bracer clean; call the office to schedule a recementation appointment. Be sure to save any part that comes completely loose.

Loose wire
Try to replace the wire in the bracket or tube with tweezers. If this is not possible, clip the wire with fingernail clippers behind the last tooth to which it is securely fastened. Call for an appointment.

Sticker
Attempt to push sticker down with the end of a spoon. If this is not possible, cover with wax and call for an appointment.

Lost tie-wire or elastic tie
This is not a real “emergency” but should be expected. Warm salt water held in the mouth can reduce soreness.

Soreness
Soreness during orthodontic treatment is to be expected. Simple medication such as Tylenol or aspirin may help; warm salt water held in the mouth can reduce soreness. In addition, a bite wager is also helpful.

Accidents involving the teeth
A appointment should be scheduled in our office as soon as it is convenient.

Extra Instructions
If for some reason a bracket or band comes loose, please be sure to notify our office immediately. In some cases it may be necessary to change your next appointment; so advance notice is greatly appreciated. Also, if a bracket comes off and we are not notified, do not assume that we will replace it at the next appointment.

We schedule according to procedure, which is why we appreciate advance notice so that enough time is allowed to replace any broken appliances. Usually, a loose bracket will not cause discomfort.

If you ever have any questions of problems please feel free to call us anytime.
